Block is instant and silent

Block a user and they disappear from your feed, map, and inbox immediately. They're not notified. No way to contact you again. Block is bilateral — you disappear from their view too.

In any chat, tap the three-dot menu → Panic. Ends the conversation, auto-blocks the user, and files a priority report with the moderation team. No delay, no confirmation prompt.

How reporting works

What happens when you report

  • Report is submitted to our moderation queue immediately
  • Reported user is hidden from your feed pending review
  • You receive a confirmation within 24 hours
  • If the report is upheld: user is warned, suspended, or banned depending on severity
  • 3+ reports against the same user triggers automatic suspension pending review
  • You're notified of the outcome

Report categories

  • Fake profile / catfishing
  • Harassment or threats
  • Hate speech (racism, fatphobia, transphobia, homophobia)
  • Underage user
  • Non-consensual content (unsolicited explicit photos)
  • Other

Automated detection

Beyond human reports, SYNC uses automated systems to flag content:

  • Image moderation via AWS Rekognition (NSFW detection, weapons, violence)
  • CSAM detection via PhotoDNA — all uploaded photos are hashed and checked against the NCMEC database. Matches result in immediate account suspension and mandatory NCMEC reporting.
  • Repeated-view stalking detection (5+ profile views in 24 hours from same user triggers automatic block from map)
  • Text moderation flags harassment patterns for human review

Check-on-me feature

Before meeting someone from SYNC for the first time, use the Check-on-me feature in chat:

  • Set a timer (1, 2, or 4 hours)
  • Add an emergency contact phone number
  • Optionally share real-time location for the duration
  • If you don't check in before the timer ends, your contact gets a text + your last known location

Community zero-tolerance policy

The following are banned, not just against the rules:

  • "No fats, no femmes, no Asians" — any exclusion phrased as a preference in profile bios
  • Racial or ethnic slurs in any form
  • Transphobia, deadnaming, or misgendering
  • Fatphobia or body-shaming content
  • Outing someone's status or identity without consent
  • Unsolicited explicit photos
  • Impersonation of real people

First violation: 7-day suspension. Second: permanent ban. No warnings for hate speech — ban is immediate.

Appeal process

If you believe your account was suspended in error, email appeals@join-sync.info with your account email and the reason. We review all appeals within 5 business days.
