Profile photos start blurred and clear in stages as a conversation deepens: the first change comes after 3 messages, the next after 7, and they're fully clear at 12 or more. The stages are counted and enforced on our servers, so there's no way to skip ahead.

Not during the beta. Everyone has one profile for now, and you choose what you're here for — Hookup, Chat, Dating or Friends — so people know upfront. Separate profiles are something we may add later, with extra safety checks first.

No, not during the beta. SYNC works out a trust signal behind the scenes — things like whether someone has confirmed they're 18+, filled in their profile, and been reported — to help our moderators prioritise. It isn't shown to other people.

The web app (app.syncdatingapp.com) is accessible anywhere, but the beta is closed and invite-only, focused on Melbourne. We're not opening additional cities until Melbourne is proven out. Request an invite to be notified when spots open.

Account deletion starts a 30-day cooling-off period during which your account is hidden from everyone and you can change your mind. After 30 days, your data is permanently deleted: profile, photos, location and account record. Messages you sent in other users' conversations are anonymised (shown as "[deleted user]") rather than deleted, to preserve the integrity of others' chat history. We don't keep your data for advertising or training after deletion.

Not during the beta. We're working on an optional conversation helper for later. If it arrives, it will only ever suggest — it will never send anything for you — and you'll be able to switch it off.

Yes, and we specifically design for this. Closeted users can: set their profile to Private (photos stay locked until you approve someone, and you're hidden from the map), stay off the map entirely, and rely on the fact that nobody ever sees your exact location — other people only see a position snapped to a grid of roughly 550 metres. We don't surface users to their contacts or suggest them to people based on phone numbers. A closeted user's privacy is treated as the highest-stakes scenario in every privacy decision we make.

No. SYNC is free during the beta and we don't take payments or card details. If we ever add a paid option, we'll tell you the price and how to cancel before you're charged.

Email support@syncdatingapp.com with your account email and the reason you believe the ban was in error. We review all appeals within 5 business days. If the ban is upheld, we'll tell you why (within the limits of confidentiality). If overturned, your account is restored with an apology.
