SYNC is not a neutral platform. We have a point of view on how people should treat each other, and we enforce it.
SYNC is a gay men's app. We use "gay men" as a broad term that includes bisexual men, pansexual men, queer men, and trans men interested in men. We celebrate that range of identity rather than ranking it.
Racial fetishisation is also discrimination, even when it looks like a preference. "Only into [ethnicity]" in a profile bio is treated the same as "no [ethnicity]." Sexual racism isn't a preference — it's prejudice. It gets removed.
Body-shaming, fatphobia, and "masc only / no femmes" framing are similarly banned. Your preferences are your own; broadcasting them as exclusions in a public profile harms the community.
SYNC does not require explicit consent mechanics for every message, but the principle is clear: if someone hasn't indicated they want to receive explicit content, don't send it. This includes photos, descriptions, and unsolicited graphic openers. First violation: 3-day suspension. Second: permanent ban.
Be who you say you are. Use photos that represent how you currently look. Don't use stock images, celebrities, or heavily filtered photos that create a false impression. The reveal mechanic exists to build trust — gaming it with fake photos betrays the people who chose to trust you.
We can't ban ghosting — but we design against it. If you're no longer interested, saying so is better than silence. A simple "thanks, not what I'm looking for" is always better than nothing, for both people. Our AI Wingman is designed to help you find the words when they're hard.
